Protect Drogheda's Thatched Cottages

Old Drogheda Society

A campaign to protest at the continuing disgraceful neglect of our two remaining thatched cottages in Drogheda was launched with a gathering at the cottage at Harty's Corner in Drogheda at 4 p.m. on Friday 11th March.

The roof is virtually gone at this stage and this is a blatant flouting of the law that requires the owner to preserve it and in the absence of such action, permits the local authority to take legal action to have the law enforced.

The Old Drogheda Society calls on every concerned citizen to support this campaign and to demand immediate action from the owner and from the responsible authority, the Louth County Council. The protest will continue on a weekly basis, alternating between Harty's Corner and the other threatened structure, The Thatch, on the Donore Road until appropriate action is taken to preserve a vital part of our local heritage

If you can, turn up at the Thatch, Donore Road, this Friday to express your concern.
