Weston Joyce was a major collector of Irish Music and Song in the 19th
century and one of the first to publish English language texts along with the
melodies noted down from vernacular singers.
In 1965 I got my hands on an
original copy of his 1909 publication OLD
IRISH FOLK MUSIC AND SONGS and released a lot of songs from it back
into the world of living music.
The Irish Traditional Music Archive asked me to
recall some of these "reconstructions" as part of their P.W.
Joyce Commemorative Micro-Site. I sing them here as closely as possible to the
original published versions.
