Old Drogheda Society
Reminder this evening that the second of this year’s Old Drogheda Society Walk & Talks takes place when Brendan Matthews will lead a walk taking in Trinity Street and Mell.
The walk will start from Horse Lane, off Trinity Street, at 7.30 pm, near the Drogheda River Rescue premises and will proceed westwards along the river path where Brendan will begin with a little history and mythology of the Great River Boyne. Then at Tubberboice Lane he will present a significant overview of the history and archaeology of the area.
The walk will continue back down Mell taking in the history of:
Singleton Cottages
the Connolly Casey Brewery later Wilson and McBrinn’s
Simcox Lane
West Gate Mill ( Donaghy’s)
the former Whitworth Mills
Christian Brothers School
and he will tell the tale of the wretched mud cabins and those who lived in them in the former Chesters Lane
All are welcome meet at Horse Lane, just after Kelleghers Insurances at 7.25 for 7.30 pm departure.

The tour will take about an hour and a half .
There is no charge but donations will be accepted.
Next Wednesday May 31st Liam Reilly will lead a walk & talk from outside Barlow House ( former Garda station) via Old Abbey, Wellington Quay and Dyer Street outlining the very interesting heritage of the area. Meet at 7.25 pm for 7.30 pm start.
