Sunday 31st May.  Battle of the Boyne Loop Walk. Meet 10am. Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre, Oldbridge Cost €10  

The walk will visit the lesser known areas of the Battlefield where William of Orange defeated James the Second in 1690.  The walk starts at the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre. After the walk there will also be Living History displays at the Centre. Be transported back to the time of the Battle of the Boyne and learn all about the Baroque horses and the training of a Cavalry Trooper.  Witness for yourself the skills of a well trained Musketeer and hear about the regiments who fought here on the 1st July 1690.

Walk the highest hills in Co Meath

Saturday 30th May.

Loughcrew/ Oldcastle Walk. Meet 10am The Fincourt Hotel, Oldcastle Cost €15



Walk the highest hills in Co Meath at Loughcrew with it's passage tombs,simular to Newgrange and Knowth. The area is also known as Slieve na Calliagh, meaning Hill of the Witch There are over 30 mounds and cairns, mostly on the two main hills, Carnbane East and Carnbane West. This walk will also include a visit to Loughcrew Gardens. Linear walk with refreshments & bus back to base included for €15

Walks Today: Drogheda & Trim

Friday 29th May - Drogheda Town Walk - Lunchtime Walk - Meet 1pm  Drogheda Tourist Office  Cost €3

Walk leader Frank Gallagher will conduct a alternate town walk starting from the Tourist Office at the Tholsel at 1pm with many interesting tales from Drogheda's past. Frank will be taking walkers down to the quays where we will learn of Drogheda's Industrial and Maritime history and the building of the Boyne Viaduct.   

Friday 29th May  Wellington's Trim  - Lunchtime Walk . Meet 1 pm Trim Visitor Centre, Castle Street, Trim. No Charge.

The Battle of Waterloo, fought 200 years ago in June 1815, was a milestone in European history. It ended over twenty years of conflict in Europe and heralded over fifty years of peace and stability. The battle was the culmination of a long campaign, fought in Spain and Portugal, by the Duke of Wellington and his allied armies .... Arthur Wellesley, a native of Summerhill& Trim also ended up as British Prime Minister not once, but twice. Noel French takes us through another chapter of Trim’s rich history. One of our Special Interest walks during the Boyne Valley Walking Festival.

Friday 29th May. The 1200 Steps of Drogheda. Meet 7pm The d Hotel, Scotch Hall, Drogheda €5 Donation to St John's Ambulance

The 1200 Steps Challenge is a 10km challenging walk. Drogheda is one of the hilliest towns in Ireland with 14 sets of steps. Visit the various sets of steps in Drogheda and learn about their history. If the Steps don't leave you breathless, the views will.

Thursday 28th May - The Wall Whisperer - Meet 7pm @ the D Hotel, Scotch Hall, Drogheda. No Charge


Well known historian and author, Tom Reilly will lead a walk around the  remnants of the medieval walls of the town: see where Oliver Cromwell broke through the walls in what is now St Mary's Churchyard in 1649; view the Buttergate, St Laurence Gate and see the walls at West Gate and learn how they extended from south of the Boyne to the north of the Boyne.

Boots On Time

Get Your Boots on for a weekend of walks in the Boyne Valley. The 5th Boyne Valley Walking festival kicks off this Bank Holiday Weekend from Thursday May 28th to May 30th. This year there are walks with something for everyone.

Thursday 28th May - The Wall Whisperer- Meet 7pm The D Hotel, Scotch Hall, Drogheda. No Charge

Weekend Tickets covering all walks are available from Drogheda Tourist Office and Trim Visitor Centre. Cost €20

1.Pre-booking facilities are operative at at the Tholsel, Drogheda or the Trim Visitor Centre.
2. ALL walkers (including those pre-booked) MUST register before the commencement of each walk .
3. Registration will commence 45 minutes prior to each walk.
4. Please bear in mind the prevailing weather conditions, and dress appropriately.
