Old Drogheda Society

As part of its commemoration for the 1916 Easter Rising the Old Drogheda Society is hosting  the first of two lunchtime lectures in the Drogheda Tourist Office.

You are invited to listen to Liam Reilly on Tuesday April 26th at 1.05pm in the Tholsel (duration 30 minutes). Liam will speak on:

Frank Thornton: A Drogheda Man In The Thick Of The Action

Frank Thornton, was one of three brothers from Peter Street who fought in the Rising.

He was in charge of the company that occupied the Imperial Hotel/Clerys building opposite the GPO.

He was interned in Frongoch. But as the British had mistakenly recorded him as Frank Drennan, when he returned to Ireland, they had no record of him.

He later worked as Deputy Assistant Director of Intelligence for Michael Collins.

The lecture is free and all are welcome.
