Death of Ormond P Waters

Old Drogheda Society

It is with deep regret that Drogheda Museum Millmount and the Old Drogheda Society has learned of the death in Australia of Ormond P Waters, a member of the Society, who contributed articles to the ODS journals and who gave a lecture in September 2011 on "The Fenian Rising in Drogheda and it's Aftermath".

Ormonde was born in Cork in 1932 and lived for a time in Laytown before moving to Western Australia in 1967 with his wife.

He has written a number of books including:

  • A Bit of Craic
  • More of the Craic,
  • John Boyle O'Reilly and the Catalpa Ballad"
  • The Fenian Wild Geese

The latter is regarded by many as the definitive work on the subject of the transported Fenians.
